For my enjoyment I owned a matched pair of Shire Horses for some years, showing them in hand, and thouroughly enjoying these beautiful horses. They have a wonderful temperament. But beware of their rear end. A kick from their back legs will do you a very bad injury. But you can always tell their mood and where to stand, when behind them. Due to what leg they are resting on. Platting their mane and tail is an art, and it took me many months of practice to to learn. I won many competitions with them, and enjoyed learning to plough with them. The Shire Horse fraternity is ancient and full of wonderful knowledgeable people.
